Draco Malfoy has always been a consistent inconvenience in every Hogwarts year, with many of his insults directed at Hermione and her Muggle background. What separates her from Ron and Harry is how she succeeded in dismissing Draco's remarks much earlier, most precisely in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when she stood up to denounce that Draco only made it to the Quidditch team because he bought his way in, as opposed to Harry, whose natural talent earned him a spot in Gryffindor team one year earlier.

However, this is before the revelation that Harry knew Parseltongue, and there is a Basilisk secretly moving around the school. As such, neither Ron nor Hermione have real advice to offer.

Except, of course, Hermione saying that it can't be a good sign. While this is an obvious enough statement, it still gets the gears turning in the minds of both Harry and the audience regarding what it could mean, all while indirectly referencing the "real world."
