Street Fighter 6 was released on June 2, 2023. It is the latest game in the franchise, replacing Street Fighter V (2016) as the mainline game of the series. It is the current Street Fighter title featured in the yearly Capcom Pro Tour competitive circuit.^[1]

SF6 was a critical and commercial success upon release.^[2]^[3] The game sold more than 2 million copies in the first month,^[4] and had the highest concurrent player count of any fighting game on Steam.^[5] At launch, the game featured 18 playable characters, a feature-rich training mode,^[6] and an online virtual arcade called the Battle Hub where players could mingle in a virtual space.^[7]

The game was initially lauded by competitive players, with particular praise given to its exceptional netcode.^[8] However, Capcom have received some criticism over their approach to balance patches, as they intend to wait a full year before making any meaningful changes to the game.^[9]

Among its accolades, SF6 was nominated for three awards at The Game Awards 2023, winning for Best Fighting Game.^[10]

Competitive scene[edit]

The Street Fighter series has historically been one of the biggest names in the competitive fighting games world, with Tier 1 and Tier 2 tournaments often featuring Street Fighter as their headlining event. CEO 2023 had over 1,000 entrants for the game^[11], and it broke the all-time player count at EVO 2023 with over 7,000 entrants.^[12]^[13]

In February of 2023, Capcom revealed a prize pool in excess of $2,000,000 for the 2023 season of the Capcom Pro Tour, with a $1,000,000 grand prize being awarded to the winner of Capcom Cup X.^[14] At the time of announcement, it was by far the biggest prize pool the history of fighting games.^[15]
