Kris graduated from Eldon High School in 2009.

Kris immediately pursued an Automotive Technology degree at Ozark Technical College in Springfield, MO until he conceded this was not entirely the right road for him. He moved to St. Louis, MO where he immersed himself in the city’s diverse culture embracing gastronomy, fashion and the young artist community. At the age of 22, Kris began an apparel company to improve racial equity and human rights by making positive statements through fashion. He gained local recognition in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, STL TV, and with the St. Louis Raw Artist events. This new social scene helped Kris meet other artists and successful restaurateurs. Kris being a sous-chef and foodie took advantage of these connections and worked under a variety of chefs. Kris had a personal challenge of severe food allergies, so he promoted his passion of preparing gluten-free and allergy-safe alternatives to mainstay St. Louis menus. Influenced by his beloved Grandma Clarice and the conviviality of her holiday meals, Kris prepared his food with love. Kris knew the value of having a nourishing meal with family & friends, followed by lots of laughs and story-telling for dessert.

Kris soon found a more lucrative talent in restoring historic homes in St. Louis, whether a complete restoration or minor fixer-upper, Kris had a talent with fine-detailed woodwork. Kris would still tinker daily with other projects like his gas-powered bicycles and his community of friends greatly appreciated him fixing their vehicles at no charge. Kris bought a camper and learned to live off the grid using solar-power. On one of his stints away from the city, Kris traded in his slalom skiing skills to conquer the feat of “walking on water.” With the coaching of his dad and the perfect glass conditions of the Osage River, Kris transformed to a barefoot water skier.

Kris is survived by his father, Robert Bruce Kohen and his mom, Jennifer L. Hunter. Other survivors include his Springfield, MO family: his grandmother Doris Ann Lynch; his mother, Sherry L. Byers; his half-siblings, Branda L. (Daniel) Plevka and Kaylee M. (Joe) Walters. Additionally, Kris had many family and friends that loved him: The Gieseking Family with cousin Cole, Uncle Matt, and his Aunt Lisa that made sure Kris had a helmet when riding those gas-powered bicycles in the city. Kris also had two incredibly supportive cousins that were terrific mentors, Brent and Theron Twenter. A special thanks to Peter Greenberg for being an extraordinary friend to Kris and for hosting an exceptional Remembrance gathering in St. Louis. Lastly, Kris also leaves behind his longtime love and road companion, the infamous 1971 GMC KE2500 4x4 Custom Camper truck.

Kris was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Louis Kohen and grandmother Clarice T. Kohen, as well as his grandfather, Del Richard Clapp.

Suggested donations include the St. Louis Chapter AAFA (aafa.org/aafa-st-louis-chapter) that advocates for expanding access to affordable EpiPens for Missouri’s children and also FARE (foodallergy.org) that has a broad resource base for those living with life-threatening food allergies. Kris believed in reducing intolerance, labels, and stigmas. Please consider simply paying acts of kindness forward in his memory.

Visitation will be held at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Jefferson City on Saturday June 25, 2022, from 2-3 p.m.

A graveside service will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.

Teresa DeLong Bayte - November 20, 1941 - May 29, 2022

Departed: 05/29/2022 (Jefferson City)

Obituary Preview: Teresa DeLong Batye ,80, died May 29th at Summit Villa Nursing home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 20th 1941 in Linn Mo, to Ronald (Fritz) Herndon and Marguerite McMichael Herndon.

Terry commuted to Jefferson City to complete her senior year at Helias High School, graduating in 1959, young in her class after accelerating an early grade. She excelled at business college in Kansas City and began her extensive work career as executive secretary, with the JC Chamber of Commerce. Over the decades she enjoyed learning the intricacies of higher education, insurance, healthcare and government, through the leadership professionals she assisted until her retirement in 2006. Besides her decade home with her children, her fondest memories were working for the Honorable Christopher “Kit” Bond, during his campaign days, term as State Auditor, and finally as executive staff secretary during his service as Governor in the 70s.

Terry was also passionate about serving others too. In 1970 she was honored as “Outstanding Young Woman of the Year” by the Council of Clubs for her volunteer contributions in community leadership. This included mental health outreach, 4H leadership, St Mary’s Auxiliary, and event organization of the Cole Co Fair as president of the Jaycee Wives. She continued to volunteer in many capacities throughout her life serving Catholic Refugee Relocation, Hospice, Red Cross at disaster sites and also musically through student outreach with MO Blues Club and playing piano in nursing homes. She always had a heart for the hurting or discounted; and often chorused the “more the merrier!” including many a soul she encountered without family, to our holiday celebrations.

Thus, Terry is fondly remembered as generous, spirited, spontaneous, creative, open-minded and musical. She was an accomplished pianist, loving her days in Jazz Band at Linn High School and also playing the flute. She studied classical music at Lincoln University and encouraged her grandchildren in their musical pursuits. Terry also enjoyed writing freelance for the Jefferson City Telegraph newspaper in the mid-2000s and having a haiku published online in the USA Today. She was always up for a concert, theater production, painting class, flea market or spur-of-the-moment road trip. Her home was ever warm and welcoming with her decorating flair. Terry remained high-energy into her final months with even the last to know her, aware of her humor and spunk.

Teresa is survived by her husband of 15 years, Dwayne Batye who survives in Holts Summit. She is also dearly missed by her four children from her marriage in 1960 to James P DeLong who preceded her in death - Michelle (Robert) Hedges of St. Louis, Lisa (Kurt) Mankin of Jefferson City, Jay (Megan) DeLong of St Louis and Tony DeLong of Holts Summit; six grandchildren – Shea Mankin, Ryan Mankin, Aaron Mankin, Jace Mankin, Otis DeLong and Vance DeLong, her sisters Ronda Gross and Noel Arnold, and brother John Michael Herndon. One sister, Kathleen Senzee, preceded her in death.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary usually falls to the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may assist with writing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary should include the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), and surviving family members. You may also want to include hobbies, achievements, and other personal details that celebrate their life.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the family's preferences. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful to those who read it.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online publication?

You can usually submit an obituary through the publication's website or by contacting their obituary department directly. Be sure to follow their guidelines for formatting, length, and content.

Are online obituaries permanent?

In most cases, online obituaries are archived permanently and can be accessed for years to come. This allows friends and family to revisit and remember their loved one at any time.

Can I create a memorial website or online tribute instead of an obituary?

Yes! Online memorials and tributes have become increasingly popular as a way to celebrate someone's life and share memories with others. These sites often allow for photos, stories, and comments from friends and family.

How do I find old obituaries from years ago?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites that specialize in historical records. Local libraries or historical societies may also have archives of old newspapers that you can access.

Absolutely! Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are great ways to share news of someone's passing and connect with others who want to pay their respects. You can also create memorial pages or groups dedicated to the deceased.

What if I'm not comfortable writing an obituary myself?
